So much to do, so little time. Spring has sprung in the foothills. Daffodils are blooming, the BBQ is beckoning. It’s a good time to clean out the pantry cupboard, wipe down shelves and get organized. I have a tote bin for all snack items, on an easily accessible shelf. Popcorn, chips, crackers, jerky, all in one bin so people aren’t pawing through my other pantry items, like all of my baking supplies.
Speaking of baking, time to go through those items and check for freshness, sesame seeds, flax, whole wheat all get old and stale smelling pretty fast. Best to keep the seeds and nuts in the freezer if you can. Maybe it’s time to throw out your can of baking powder, box of soda, and carton of corn starch and start fresh, they are inexpensive and freshness will save anything you bake. While your at it, all those old bottles and packets of herbs and spices should be smelled and tasted for freshness. If they don’t ‘Smell’ like anything, they won’t add to your cooking.
